چکیده

Single particle tracking with a wide field microscope is used to study the solid liquid interface between the viscous liquid tetrakis(2-ethylhexoxy)-silane and a silicon dioxide surface. Silicon dioxide nanoparticles (5 nm diameter) marked with the fluorescent dye rhodamine 6G are used as probes. The distributions of diffusion coefficients, obtained by mean squared displacements, reveal heterogeneities with at least two underlying diffusion components. Measurements on films with varying film thicknesses show that the slower component is independent of the film thickness, while the faster one increases with the film thickness. Additionally, we could show that the diffusion behavior of the particles cannot be sufficiently described by only two diffusion coefficients. keywords: diffusion, single particle tracking, squared displacements, msd, csdd, hydrodynamic boundary conditions, ultra-thin liquid films

Investigation of solid liquid interface in ultra-thin liquid films via single particle tracking of colloidal particles

It has been well known for some years that thin liquid films form layered structures near smooth surfaces and free interfaces [1]. Thereby it is apparent that the dynamical properties of these films differ from those of bulk liquids. Besides the altered film structure, films at interfaces will be subject to hydrodynamic boundary conditions (HBC) [2]. We used 5 nm silica particles doped with Rho...

Wettability of Liquid Mixtures on Porous Silica and Black Soot Layers

Sophisticated manipulation of surface roughness and solid surface energy are widely used to design super-hydrophobic layers. In this work, we designed highly porous silica layer with contact angle (CA) of 145°, and its robustness was promoted with thermal treatment. Wettability of coated layer is studied with CA measurement for different liquid surface tensions using diluted organi...

Investigations of Static and Dynamic Heterogeneities in Ultra-Thin Liquid Films via Scaled Squared Displacements of Single Molecule Diffusion

1. Introduction For analyzing the mobility of diffusing molecules, single molecule experiments are well established. Experiments in ultra-thin liquid films revealed a heterogeneous behavior of diffusion [1], which could be explained by a layering of liquids at solid interfaces as reported in [2]. Consequently, a layer model with layer-dependent diffusion coefficient was developed. Layer transit...

Opening and retraction of particulate soap films

We study for the first time the bursting dynamics of thin liquid films laden with hydrophobic micronic particles either with free or constrained edges. We highlight that the particles can arrange in bilayer or monolayer configurations and explore a range of particles coverage from zero to random close packing. When the particles bridge the two interfaces (monolayer configuration) of free edge f...
